sculpture “Children are victims of adult vices”
One of the famous sculptural compositions of the capital called “Children — Victims of Adult Vices” stands out for its theme. The sculptures symbolically depict drug addiction, prostitution, theft and other vices of our time. There are 15 monster figures in total. In the semicircle of these black sculptures, there are two gilded ones — a boy and a girl playing blindfolded. At their feet are books of folk tales and Pushkin's “Tales”.
The author is the infamous sculptor Mikhail Shemyakin (among the master's other works is the monument to Peter the Great in the Peter and Paul Fortress). The sculptural group is located on Bolotnaya Square. Unfortunately, modern vices are not limited to those carved out of stone by the sculptor, so the monument had to be fenced to protect it from vandals.
