Viktor Tsoi's wall on the Arbat
This wall was formed spontaneously, without the permission of the authorities. It was occupied by those who are not indifferent to the work of Viktor Tsoi, and for whom freedom is the highest value. Interestingly, it was here that the popular expression “Choi is alive” was born. On the day of the singer's death, one of his fans expressed his grief, writing in huge letters “Viktor Tsoi died today”. The answer to this cry from the heart was the famous phrase, painted on the wall in the same way by an unknown fan.
The wall has changed its appearance more than once. For example, in 2016, a large inscription “Choi is dead” appeared on it, but fans of the singer quickly painted it over. And on April 14, 2019, football fans of the Moscow club Dynamo added graffiti to the Tsoi Wall with a quote from the song “Our Hearts Demand Changes”, which occupied the entire lower part of its space and actually destroyed all previous inscriptions and drawings. This stirred up the public: the official website of the club supported the “art action” of fans, but among the fans of the rock musician there were also opponents of such radical transformations.
