Kremlin Armory Tower
Aloysio Da Carezano or Aleviz Fryazin, as he was called in Russia, had to lead the completion of the north-western side of the Kremlin Walls, which were located along the Neglinnaya River. In the course of his work, the architect not only erected the towers and walls of the Kremlin, but also carried out large-scale hydraulic work to strengthen the creeping soil of the slope on which it is located.
In addition to the construction of the Armory Tower, the Italian architect supervised the construction of stone chambers in the Kremlin. Also under his control, a dam and a massive structure of the Troitsky Bridge across the Neglinnaya River were built. In addition, Aleviz Fryazin was the author of the project of the so-called “Aleviz Ditch”, which took place under the walls of the Kremlin and had a brick bottom and slopes.
Unlike the listed buildings, which have not survived to this day, the Armory Tower continues to delight the eye with its harmonious architecture. Its appearance, with the exception of some additions that took place in 1676—1686, has not changed much for more than five centuries.
