Duel location on Chernaya River
There is no doubt that the duel between the great poet Pushkin and Dantes took place not far from the Komendantskaya dacha on the banks of the Black River. But then the testimony of contemporaries and historical studies differ. And the area is constantly undergoing changes. One way or another, a memorial sign was erected to the right of Kolomyazhskaya Road (now the Avenue), just a few years after the death of Alexander Sergeevich. At first, it was a simple plaque with the date of the poet's death — January 27, 1837. And also the inscription: “... fell fatally wounded... Pushkin”.
Then, at the site of the fatal duel, a column was installed with a plaque on which Mikhail Lermontov's poems dedicated to Pushkin were written: “The soul of the poet could not stand...” and the words of Alexander Sergeevich himself: “I am He erected a monument not made by hands...” Indeed, the path to it was not overgrown, in the 90s of the XIX century, a pedestal with a bust of the poet was installed. After its destruction, a temporary monument was erected, and in 1937, on the centenary of his death, an obelisk with a bas-relief and two steles were erected.
At the beginning of the XXI century, businessmen planned to build a gas station just a stone's throw away from the place of the duel. However, the opinion of ordinary people who respect the memory of the historical site turned out to be stronger than the Golden Calf. To this day, crowds of tourists come to the shore of the Black River.
