Leningrad Zoo
Leningrad Zoo, founded in 1865, is one of the oldest zoos in Russia and offers visitors a rich historical and cultural experience. Nestled in the picturesque Alexander Park, the zoo covers an area of about 7.4 hectares and is home to over 2,000 animals representing 410 species. From majestic big cats like tigers and lions to exotic reptiles and vibrant bird species, the zoo showcases a diverse range of wildlife from around the world.
The zoo has a strong focus on education and conservation, participating in various international breeding programs and research projects aimed at preserving endangered species. Notable exhibits include the 'Polar World,' which features polar bears, Arctic foxes, and other animals adapted to cold climates. The zoo also has a section dedicated to the fauna of Russia, giving visitors a glimpse into the native species of the vast Russian wilderness.
Visitors can enjoy a variety of activities, including guided tours, educational programs for children, and interactive exhibits that allow closer encounters with some of the animals. The zoo also offers seasonal events, such as the 'Zoo at Night,' where guests can explore the zoo after dark and observe the nocturnal habits of its residents. With its combination of historical significance, diverse wildlife, and educational opportunities, Leningrad Zoo is a must-visit attraction for both locals and tourists.
