fountains on Manezhnaya Square

Built in the mid-1990s, the central fountain of the complex is called the Geyser. It has a group of sculptures called [“Seasons”] (http://kudago.com/msk/place/koni-manezhka/), which is four horses made of bronze — symbols of Winter, Spring, Summer and Autumns. Bronze horses are preparing to jump over water jets that are directed vertically upwards. The “Curtain” is installed behind the frisky horses, powerful jets of water gushing from it create an arch over the walking alley for pedestrians - you can safely walk under it without fear of getting wet.

The complex also includes the artfully executed Neglinka River, which consists of fountains, a channel with a mosaic bottom, bridges and various statues. Among the sculptures created by Tsereteli, you can see fairy-tale characters: the Little Mermaid, the Firebird, Alyonushka sitting on a stone, the Frog Princess and others. The Neglinka riverbed begins with a fountain called the “Snail” — the movement of water here in several jets is directed in a spiral, making the flow look like a snail shell. If you walk further along the artificial river bed, you can admire the Grotto fountain, where a waterfall is also built. In the middle of the water jets, you can see a statue of a resting Mermaid.

In the early 2000s, the complex was supplemented by the Waterfall fountain, in which multiple jets of water are combined with a mechanism based on the principle of overflow. According to the same principle, a “Cascade” is arranged, consisting of bowls installed at different heights, from which water overflows.

The underground shopping mall is equipped with a glass dome, which is surrounded by water jets of different heights, forming a fountain called the “Clock of the World”. The surface of the dome is decorated with mosaics in the form of the outlines of the continents, and the dome itself is marked with the names of various cities. The dome is constantly rotating, and in exactly 24 hours it makes a full revolution. Eight illuminated domes have been built in the underground shopping complex, and three of them are surrounded by fountains, the water jets of which follow the shape of the domes.

The fountain complex on Manezhnaya Square is open 24 hours a day. In addition, it also works when the operating season of other Moscow fountains is already over — the fountains on Manezhnaya are turned off only when the average daily temperature drops below 0°C.
