Kekusheva's mansion
Kekusheva's mansion is one of the most beautiful Art Nouveau architectural buildings in Moscow. The building resembles a medieval European castle because of its small pointed turret, but otherwise it clearly belongs to the Art Nouveau era — asymmetrical architecture, floral ornaments in decorations windows and facade, atypical masonry of the base and curved openings.
The architect of the house is Lev Kekushev himself, known as the founder of the Kekushevsky Art Nouveau style. The mansion that his wife inherited after the divorce became the most fashionable building in Moscow at that time, followed by many rich people built the same extravagant houses.
All the interior spaces of the house were grouped around the staircase, which is the main axis of the building. Some elements of the interior have been preserved to this day, which was also designed and made by Lev Kekushev.
Some literary critics believe that this particular mansion became the prototype of the house where Margarita Bulgakov lived. Today, the Office of the Egyptian Military Attaché is located here. The building was renovated in 2018. Of the most notable changes, a lion that disappeared in the 1930s returned to the roof of the building, and stucco eagles returned to the tower.
