Berlin Zoological Garden
The Berlin Zoological Garden, known simply as the Berlin Zoo, is one of the oldest and most famous zoos in the world. Founded in 1844, it is located in the Tiergarten district and covers 35 hectares. The zoo houses around 20,000 animals from nearly 1,300 species, making it one of the most diverse animal collections globally. The Berlin Zoo is renowned for its historic architecture, such as the Elephant Gate entrance, and its beautiful landscapes.
The zoo plays a crucial role in conservation efforts, participating in breeding programs for endangered species like the giant panda, which has become one of its star attractions. The zoo also features an impressive aquarium that showcases a variety of aquatic life, reptiles, and amphibians. Visitors can enjoy daily animal feedings and educational talks, providing insights into the lives and habitats of the animals.
In addition to its animal exhibits, the Berlin Zoo offers various recreational facilities, including playgrounds, picnic areas, and restaurants, making it an ideal destination for families. The zoo's location in the heart of Berlin also makes it easily accessible by public transport, with the Zoologischer Garten train station nearby.
