Berlin Philharmonic

The Berlin Philharmonic (Berliner Philharmonie) is one of the world's leading orchestras, renowned for its artistic excellence and innovative programming. Founded in 1882, the orchestra has been under the direction of many illustrious conductors, including Wilhelm Furtwängler, Herbert von Karajan, and Claudio Abbado. Since 2002, Sir Simon Rattle has led the orchestra, continuing its tradition of excellence.

The Philharmonie building, designed by architect Hans Scharoun, is located in the Kulturforum area of Berlin. Completed in 1963, its distinctive tent-like shape and innovative vineyard-style seating arrangement ensure superb acoustics and an intimate concert experience. The hall seats over 2,400 people and hosts a wide variety of concerts, including classical, contemporary, and experimental music performances.

The Berlin Philharmonic is known for its commitment to education and outreach. The orchestra offers numerous educational programs, family concerts, and workshops, as well as the Digital Concert Hall, an online platform that streams live performances and provides access to an extensive archive of past concerts. Visitors to the Philharmonie can also enjoy guided tours of the building, exploring its unique architecture and learning about the history of the orchestra.
