Everything has happened in the history of Russian art. For example, there was a red square, a red horse, a red proletarian. Now there's a red tower. Not in the sense of “beautiful”, but in the most direct way. It is called the Tower of Babel of the technogenic era. The creation of sculptor Andrey Sazonov.

By first training as a boatmaster, he is used to dealing with metal, and in art he goes the same way, calling his style “renovationism”. Its essence is to give new life to unnecessary metal things as art objects. So is his tower of Babel — all of a pile of scrap metal. Of course, it is far from the sky, if the author put it together from all the rubbish on the planet... But the technogenic era is immediately guessed.

The tower occupies a worthy place among dozens of sculptures, the names of which often include the word “strange”: “Strange Horse”, “Strange Monument to A.Blok”, “Strange Monument to Alexander II”. This strange place exists on Vasilyevsky Island in St. Petersburg, in the courtyard of the faculty of St. Petersburg State University, where people who are strange for the technogenic era study — philologists.
