Pravdy street

Perhaps one of the most unusual in the city, Pravdy Street, which is located near the Vladimirskaya and Dostoevskaya metro stations, is an extension of Bolshaya Moskovskaya Street. Back in the distant XVIII century, employees of His Imperial Majesty's Cabinet lived in these places and managed the royal property. That is why the street was called Cabinet. And after the October Revolution of 1917, it was named after the Bolshevik newspaper Pravda, the first issue of which, as you know, was published back in 1912.

Nowadays, you can see a lot of works by contemporary artists. These are sculptural compositions that testify to new trends in art, while at the same time telling us about significant events in the history of the city and the country. For example, the Three Angels group, created by Sergei Borisov, was built in memory of three churches that once stood in these places.

Nearby is a small park, where passers-by will see the “Good Dog” or “Gavryusha the Dog”. There is a belief that Gavryusha fulfills a wish if you write it on a piece of paper and leave it at the foot of the sculpture. As students say, especially the dog helps to pass sessions and close debts.

Near the University of Film and Television, it's hard not to notice the “Agitator”, who is also called the “Director”.

And if you look into the courtyards of the houses on Pravdy Street, 2-8, you can find yourself in a magical place from Volkov's work “The Wizard of the Emerald City”. A few years ago, figures of the Scarecrow, the good fairies Stella and Velina, the Lion, the Iron Lumberjack and others appeared here.
