Petersburg angel

The author of the sculpture is St. Petersburg artist Roman Shustrov, the creator of many decorative dolls, and is a very friendly person. Even from the newspapers that serve as the building material of his work, he removes all negative materials.

Petersburg Angel is dedicated to the generation that survived the civil war, famine, repression, blockade, war, difficult post-war years, the collapse of the USSR, but retained their love for life, interest in people, intelligence and good-naturedness. These old people are distinguished by their special purity and wisdom, characteristic only of people who have lived a long honest life and young children. They are gradually leaving our lives, but their light and warmth remain with everyone who has had contact with them at least once.

The sculpture was installed in the [Izmailovsky Garden] (https://kudago.com/spb/place/izmaylovskiy-sad/) on Fontanka near the Youth Theater as the winner of the 2012 Urban Sculpture Symposium, organized by Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture. At the opening of Peter's new symbol, a violin sounded and autumn leaves fell softly.

Petersburgers have already come up with a small ritual. Coins are put on the angel's knees. Why? Maybe as a reminder of the mercy on which this world stands.
