Quiet Otdykh Park

Despite the proximity to the highway and the Chernaya Rechka metro station, the park on Kamenny Island has many secluded corners where it can be really quiet. The privacy and romantic atmosphere remind visitors of the times when Kamenny Island was not yet inhabited.

The first residential buildings on Kamenny Island appeared at the end of the 19th century. These were small mansions at that time, which housed summer cottages. It was then that the garden on Kamenny Island got its current name. Since the territory of the island belonged to the imperial family, only representatives of famous families could live in the mansions.

After the revolution of 1917 at the beginning of the 20th century, the mansions were rebuilt into sanatoriums, and health resorts and resorts were opened on the territory of the island. Over time, Kamenny Island began to be called the Workers' Island. The park houses the residences of members of the government, various dispensaries and children's institutions.

In the 80s of the XX century, the park was returned to its former name — “Quiet Rest”. The Executive Committee of the Leningrad City Council awarded the park the status of a historical and cultural monument. All territories of Kamenny Island were included in the boundaries of the park, except for those architectural objects that have always been the cultural heritage of the city — the Kamennostrovsky Palace and Polovtsov's dacha.

Today, a sanatorium and recreation area is located in the Tikhiy Otdykh Park. This secluded place, immersed in greenery, will appeal to both fans of a measured holiday and lovers of history. There are several attractions in the park. Almost in the very center of Kamenny Island stands the [Church of the Nativity of John the Baptist] (https://kudago.com/spb/place/cerkov-rozhdestva-sv-ioanna-predtechi/), built in the 18th century. The architectural monument is a functioning Orthodox church, made in the pseudo-Gothic style according to the project of architect Yu. M. Felten. It is noteworthy that the church still has a chapel of the icon “Vsetsaritsa”, which was used as a bridge watch several centuries ago.

At Kamennoostrovsky Prospekt, on the Bolshaya Nevka embankment, there is an unusual building, which is a modern sports complex. The sports complex has its own architectural highlight. In the ensemble of the building, you can find three statues dedicated to the Olympic champions of Russia — Anatoly Roschin, Nikolai Solovyov and Alexander Karelin.

Many people remember that the duel between Pushkin and Dantes took place on the Black River, but few people know that it happened in the park “Tikhiy Otdykh”. You won't have to look for a historical place long. A memorial sign was installed at the site of the duel.
