Monument to the nose of Major Kovalev

The monument on the facade of the building was installed in 1995 as part of the festival of satire “Zolotoy Ostap”. Architect Vyacheslav Bukhaev made a marble monument according to a sketch by artist Rezo Gabriadze. Pink marble for the nose was brought from Ukraine, the birthplace of Nikolai Gogol.

In 2002, the marble tablet disappeared under mysterious circumstances. Gogol's fans claimed that his nose went for a walk as usual. However, tourists who arrived on Voznesensky Prospekt did not find the monument and were very upset. Then in 2003, the question of its restoration arose. Sculptor Vladimir Panfilov worked on the copy.

But in the same year, the original was found — the nose did not manage to get far away. The loss was found in one of the ceremonial house No. 15 on Srednyacheskaya Street and the monument was rushed back to its rightful place. And the copy was hung on the building of the Museum of City Sculpture, where it is still located today.
