Derzhavin Estate Museum

After the death of the famous owner, the estate was taken over by the Roman Catholic Church. In the Soviet years, the estate was owned by the state and turned into a huge communal apartment. It was at this time that the main alterations inside the building took place, which changed the interior of the house beyond recognition. Almost nothing remains of the original beauty either in the interior or in the exterior of the building. The restoration of the architectural monument and its museumification began only in the late nineties. Now the Derzhavin Estate Museum is a branch of the All-Russian Museum of A. S. Pushkina.

The estate is an integral architectural ensemble of buildings: the main mansion in which the owner lived, two twin wings and a guest house. The interiors of the house are recreated in the style of the Catherine era. When developing the project, we relied on well-known analogues.

The Polish Garden Park is located around the buildings. During the reconstruction of the estate, it was recreated from archival drawings, and now it is an exact copy of the park Derzhavin walked through. A green theater is hidden under the shade of trees, where performances take place in spring, summer and autumn. At the same time, the estate museum itself is now often a venue for creative meetings, performances, musical evenings and scientific conferences. This is another reminiscence — after 1811, literary collections “Conversations of Lovers of the Russian Word” were held here.

In addition, the mansion has a large collection dedicated to the life of Derzhavin and his work. When forming an exposition, emphasis is always placed on the poet's contribution to the development of the Russian literary language.

Museum staff pay great attention to young visitors. For elementary school students, museum teachers conduct programs that allow children to easily learn the basics of literary creativity. There are also special programs for high school students and students. The temporary exhibitions in this museum cover a wide range of topics, from exhibitions dedicated to historical figures, most often writers, to projects that tell about St. Petersburg and the theater; here even exhibitions of modern painters and hand-made masters are held. In addition, you can celebrate your birthday at Derzhavin's Manor by organizing a real ball that will be held in compliance with all the canons of the secular society of the late 18th and early 20th centuries.

The cost of a single entrance ticket without guided tours is 120 rubles, for students and pensioners it is 60 rubles, persons under 16 years old can visit the museum free of charge. Those wishing to conduct video or photography will have to pay extra.
