St. Catherine's Catholic Church

The full name of the temple is the Church of St. Catherine of Alexandria. The Catholic parish was founded in 1716, and only twenty years later Empress Anna Ioannovna signed a permit for the construction of a Catholic church on [Nevsky Prospekt] ( https://kudago.com/spb/place/nevskij-prospekt/).

The temple is connected with the destinies of many prominent personalities. The last Polish king Stanislav Ponyatowski, the builder of St. Isaac's Cathedral, architect Montferrand, was buried here, and here he once married and baptized a child. Under the Bolsheviks, many parishioners of the church were subjected to repression, and the rector was executed, and the church itself was looted. Many of the icons and books kept there were thrown out into the street. And in 1947, all the misfortunes of the church were completed by a fire. The restoration of the temple began in the late seventies, but as a religious center it began to function much later. In the early nineties, the city again returned this building to the church.

At the moment, the church holds regular services, the schedules of which can be found on the website. A Sunday school and a youth club are also successfully operating, and meetings of the Order of Laity Dominicans are held.

The parish choir of St. Catherine's Church regularly participates in domestic and international festivals of religious chants, and meetings with various cultural figures and arts.
