Yelagin island

Kirov Central Park of Culture and Recreation is an oasis of nature located almost in the city center. As in any English park, beauty and usefulness, simplicity and grandeur are combined here, and unique landscapes set you up for long walks and reflection.

The small island of Yelagin is located in the Neva Delta. Almost all of its territory is the Kirov Central Park of Culture and Recreation.

This is one of the most beautiful green places in St. Petersburg. Initially, it was planned to create a classic French park here, but under the guidance of garden master John Bush, it was replanned into landscape English.

Since its foundation, the park has been public and open to the public. In the XVIII century, the island on which the park is located was named after the director of the court theater Ivan Perfilyevich Elagin. At this time, the first stone palace and pavilions appeared on the territory of the park. A little later, Karl Rossi built a luxurious palace intended for Empress Maria Fedorovna. The park was damaged during the Great Patriotic War. The restoration was completed only in 1990, although it was opened since 1961.

Today, the park on Elagin Island is a favorite place for citizens for family holidays. Its atmosphere sets you up for long walks, you want to listen to birds singing and enjoy the beauty of nature. Almost tame squirrels live in the park, who do not mind eating nuts. In summer, there is a cafe, an open-air library, tennis courts and a boat station, a spacious rollerdrome and a Norwegian rope park. During the winter season, a free ice rink is available, and you can go tobogganing and skiing. The park also has its own small [menagerie] (https://kudago.com/spb/place/mini-zoopark-elagin/).

The park includes: the Elaginoostrovsky Palace, the Greenhouse Complex, [Kitchen] (https://kudago.com/spb/place/kuhonnyj-korpus-elagina-dvorca/) and the Konyushenny Building, where exhibitions are held. Here you can visit the Museum of Art Glass and appreciate the unique exposition of Leningrad masters. There is a workshop “Creative Dacha” in the Cavalier Building, where you can develop your artistic and musical abilities. Nearby there is a “Glassblowing Workshop”, where you can watch the process of working with the hot hot mass from which glass products are born.

Three bridges lead to the island, connecting it with [Krestovsky Island] (https://kudago.com/spb/place/krestovskij-ostrov/) and Kamenny, as well as with Primorsky District.
