Egyptian house
These symbols, for example, the image of a pyramid that emits light, can be found in St. Isaac's, Smolny and other cathedrals and churches, not to mention the sculptures of sphinxes that catch everyone's eye. The so-called Egyptian house on Chernyshevsky Avenue does not remain without attention. It is full of Egyptian symbolism.
Experts believe that its main entrance looks like the gate to the temple of the Egyptian goddess Hathor, whose face we can see above the arch at the level of the second floor. The entrance is guarded by colossal figures of pharaohs with all attributes of power. True, they have more relief muscles and more severe faces than sculptures of Ancient Egypt. Above the arch, the symbol of the god Ra is a winged luminous disk, which, by the way, is also found in various places in St. Petersburg. The columns protruding from the walls are crowned with the heads of the four-faced goddess of love, whose image is also not quite traditional, that is, it corresponds to the Art Nouveau style in which the author of the project, architect Mikhail, worked Songailo.
The building was not intended for the Museum of Egyptology, but was an ordinary tenement house, that is, residents rented apartments in it. In fact, now it also remains a residential building. They say that there is also Egyptian symbolism in the well yard, but you can't see it from the outside.
