The current architectural monument of the Elizabethan Baroque era, Shuvalov Palace in the 18th century was one of the mansions owned by a Russian statesman, a favorite of Empress Elizabeth I, Ivan Ivanovich Shuvalov, a man who founded the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts and Moscow University.

The Shuvalov Palace, built in the period from 1749 to 1756 by the Russian architect Savva Ivanovich Chevakinsky, housed an art gallery of Ivan Ivanovich. Two decades later, the building was owned by the Prosecutor General of the Senate and a trusted dignitary of the Empress Alexander Alekseevich Vyazemsky.

From the end of the 18th century until 1918, the Shuvalov Palace building was used by state structures — the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Empire, and then by the Provisional Government. Today, the [Hygiene Museum] (https://kudago.com/spb/place/muzej-gigieny/) of the Center for Medical Prevention is located in the premises of the architectural monument.
