Dvortsovy Bridge

The bridge from Admiralteysky Island leads to Vasilievsky Island. Its length is 250 meters, width is 27.7 meters. Dvortsovy has five spans, and you often see its diluted profile on various souvenirs of the city of St. Petersburg.

The name of this bridge changed only once - in 1917, when it was made Republican. Palace Bridge is named after the nearest embankment.

The history of the bridge began with the fact that merchants needed a connection with the exchange and the Trade Port. And then St. Isaac's “pontoon”, that is, a floating bridge that rested on flat-bottomed ships, was moved by 53 meters. The bridge was a drawbridge, but so far it was temporary.

It was a challenge to build a permanent bridge. The government announced a competition for the construction of bridges — there were two of them, including the Palace Bridge. But even then he was not destined to appear: not a single sketch was accepted, and the competition was extended. Then the Russo-Japanese War broke out, and then the revolution.

The project of the Kolomensky Zavody Society won the new competition. The society was given a condition — to carry out the work from domestic material. Problems arose with the architectural design: the towers proposed by the project seemed too large and overlooked the boundaries of the architectural style, and the lamps would illuminate the bridge unevenly. As a result, they decided to refuse all the excesses.

They began to build the bridge, but then there were occutions — the flood damaged the support, and then the First World War began, and all this was against the background of the beginning of work, which was already slow due to problems with the supply materials.

The unfinished bridge, having tested 34 trucks before that, was opened as a temporary bridge: the cast iron was replaced with wood and plywood, and people were invited to the opening — only 10% of those invited came. Even the ribbon was cut by the deputy mayor.

Cast-iron railings were installed in 1939, and the eagles were not put on the bridge. In 1994, trams stopped running along Dvortsovoye.

By 2008, the bridge was in need of reconstruction. It was repaired only in 2012 and opened on October 19, 2013.

The crossing is bred from 1:10 to 2:50 and from 3:10 to 4:55am.
