Everyone has heard about the strict geometry of St. Petersburg streets. It is convenient to navigate in the city, where all the streets are located to each other at right angles. But, alas, even in the most clearly planned settlement, the features of the landscape make their own adjustments. As you know, St. Petersburg is an island city, divided into parts by rivers and canals, and rivers do not flow in a straight line. But it is inconvenient to build winding houses, but at the junction of streets with embankments, or just two streets, one of which is focused on the location of the river, there are houses with pointed ends. People call them “iron house”.

“Iron House” is located in the historical district of St. Petersburg, called Kolomnaya. The sharpest corner of the triangular house can be seen at the junction of Sadovaya Street and Fontanka Embankment. There is also an iron-shaped courtyard in the house. The project of the building was prepared by architect Vasily Shaub, according to his idea, the neoclassical house had to be decorated with dignity. But the customer and owner of this apartment house refused to decorate in order to save money.
