Bolshoy Obukhovsky Bridge, which was inaugurated on December 15, 2004, is one of the longest bridges in Russia, with a total length of about three kilometers.

The name for the bridge, which, let all tourists know, is the only night crossing over the Neva River, was chosen by the residents of the city themselves. Among such options as Izhorsky, Nevsky, Leningradskikh and others, the citizens chose Obukhovsky, although this created some problems, because in St. Petersburg there is a bridge with the name “Obukhovsky” already existed, and for more than one hundred years. The solution to the problem turned out to be quite simple — the word “Big” was simply added to the name of the newest miracle of engineering.

Bolshoy Obukhovsky Bridge is one of the tallest structures in the Northern Capital. Its pylons have a height of 126 meters, which is only three and a half meters lower than the spire of the Peter and Paul Cathedral. It is noteworthy that the bridge even has its own museum, where everyone can learn a lot about this gigantic cable-stayed crossing that connects the two banks of the Neva.
