summer yard in Nikolsky Ryady

A bit of history

Nikolsky Market has been in the center of St. Petersburg since 1789. Initially, it was built for the needs of the Maritime Department — for barracks and administrative buildings. But it was not possible to implement this venture, and the space was given to the shopping arcades. Later, over the years, the Glutton Ryad (a canteen for painters, carpenters and other seasonal workers) and factories for the production of dishes were located here.

In 2007, the building, surrounded by the picturesque embankment of the Griboedov Canal, Semimostye, the Mariinsky Theater and other city attractions, fell into disrepair, and its large-scale reconstruction only started in 2013. When it was completed (in 2018), the idea arose to use the courtyard (which is more than 7,000 m²) as a public space. Last summer, the courtyard of Nikolsky Ryady was opened to everyone. Inside, there is a green area with cocoon swings, benches and mirrored structures and a small coworking space. In winter, the largest city slide, a Christmas market and a New Year's carousel were installed in the yard.

Things to do in the summer yard

Now, in the summer courtyard of Nikolsky Ryady, you can listen to fascinating lectures, sit comfortably in the landscaped wooden Amphitheater, have a city picnic, and just sunbathe on sunny days.

Wooden architectural objects in the courtyard continue with the Summer Stage, where creative workshops, dance evenings and concerts take place.

For urban sports enthusiasts, the courtyard has the first and only golf club in the city with an 18-hole mini golf and putting golf course. You can learn how to hold a stick professionally, learn different striking techniques and understand what a putt is and how it differs from a pitch at master classes that are regularly conducted by a coach from Minigolf Association in St. Petersburg. The cost of the game varies from 300 to 600 rubles.

In the center of the courtyard is the territory of the summer market, where the corners of curious city restaurants are presented. Among them are Crispy Pizza pizzeria, Asian snacks from Bao Mochi, Thai fried ice cream from Madame Wong, Indian dishes from Jimmy Jimmy, Czech delicacies from Trdelnik, natural lemonades from Dachi and much more.

The summer plans also include a series of thematic fairs along with numerous gastronomic projects in St. Petersburg.
