Alexandrovsky Garden

The garden is surrounded by the Winter Palace with Palace Square, the Admiralty, St. Isaac's Cathedral, the Copper Horseman and other symbols of St. Petersburg's culture and history.

The area is solid - ten hectares, and attention to its own person throughout its existence, the garden has received appropriate attention: it was cared for, arranged and rearranged, and although during Anti-aircraft guns were located here in the Great Patriotic War, not a single tree was cut down for firewood during the icy winters of the blockade.

The garden has repeatedly changed its name, territory, square. But from the first moment of its development, it remained elite. At first it was a boulevard in front of the Admiralty. The entrance to the boulevard was through turnstiles (and this was at the beginning of the XIX century!) and guarded by sentries. The boulevard was equipped with benches and fifty oil lamps on wooden poles. Each planted tree had supports, a sign with the date of disembarkation and daily watering. The first catering facilities were also present — French tea and coffee houses. In general, civilization and culture.

The present garden was opened for the bicentenary of Peter the Great. Emperor Alexander II attended the ceremony, who was immediately asked to give the garden his name, to which he graciously agreed. This name was returned to the garden at the end of the XX century. Since its opening, the park has been replenished with pavilions, fountains, flower beds and monuments. It was repeatedly immortalized in poems, photographs and paintings. There are legends associated with it. And it is still a favorite place for celebrations and celebrations of residents and numerous visitors of the Northern Capital.
