Inside the fortress was a small Swedish town with a population of 2,500 people, Lutheran and even Orthodox churches. Later, he founded Okhta Shipyards here, and the district remained an industrial zone for several centuries.

Today, on the Sverdovskaya embankment at the mouth of Okhta, you can see a granite monument dedicated to the lost Nienshants fortress.
