Savva Morozov's mansion
This beautiful house was built by philanthropist Savva Morozov for his beloved wife, Zinaida Grigoryevna Morozova. Construction of the mansion began in 1893.
The results of the work of architect Fedor Shekhtel amazed everyone. Both outside and inside, the mansion resembles a romantic neo-Gothic castle. Morozov was not stingy: his house was decorated very richly, and Mikhail Vrubel himself was engaged in the interior decoration. All questions about the exterior and interior of the mansion were decided by Zinaida Grigoryevna herself.
Savva Timofeyevich married for great love to a woman who was already married to his nephew. Not beautiful, but clever, educated, subtle nature — she conquered this healthy strong man at first sight. He stole it, got married, built a wonderful mansion in which the Morozovs settled.
After the revolution of 1905, Savva Morozov committed suicide, and Zinaida Grigoryevna sold the mansion to breeder Ryabushinsky, never accepting the fact that her love was gone forever.
The Morozovs' mansion probably became the prototype of Margarita's house from Bulgakov's novel The Master and Margarita.
Now this mansion hosts receptions of the highest level. It is called the “Reception House of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs”. Thus, it was at Spiridonovka that the G8 meeting in Moscow took place.
