people's observatory
For more than 20 years, the people's observatory in Gorky Park has been closed. In 2012, a large-scale reconstruction of the premises was completed, and the building with a new powerful telescope and a sliding dome was reopened to everyone.
The dome of the observatory can rotate 360°, and inside there is a modern telescope with the possibility of magnification by 841 times. The observatory regularly holds lectures on astrophysics, astrophotography and other topics related to space, which are read by employees of the Moscow Planetarium.
In 2021, the observatory was closed again for restoration, during which specialists strengthened the foundation, restored staircases, brickwork and floor coverings, painted facades and the dome was treated with anticorrosive compounds. Brass handles and hinges sparkled on the doors again, which were recreated in the style of the 50s of the last century. In general, the entire pavilion now looks as Moscow residents saw it 70 years ago.
The cost of visiting as part of a group is 350 rubles, a discount ticket is 175 rubles (this amount also includes the excursion). An individual tour will cost 3,000 rubles. Pre-registration is required. The observatory is open daily from May to September (weather permitting).
