The water tower of the Moscow Kremlin

The Vodovzvodnaya or Sviblova Tower is the southwestern corner tower of the Moscow Kremlin, it is located at the corner of the Kremlin Embankment and the Alexander Garden. It was built in 1488 by Anton Fryazin. Its second name - Sviblova - comes from the boyar family Sviblo, whose yard was located nearby.

The tower received its current name in 1633. A machine was installed in it to supply water from the Moscow River to the Kremlin. It was the first water supply system in Moscow, through lead pipes of which water was supplied to gardens, as well as to the Sytny and Kormovoy Palaces.

On the Moscow River, there was a port raft near the tower, where laundry was rinsed, there were also accessories for this activity, and linen washed in the river was worn back to the Kremlin.

In 1805, due to dilapidation, it had to be dismantled and rebuilt. But it did not please the eyes of Muscovites for long: in 1812, Napoleon's retreating army blew up the tower. In 1819, it was restored again, but without loopholes, and the dormer windows were decorated with Tuscan porticos.

In 1937, a ruby star sparkled over the tower. The range of its rays is three meters. At the same time, it is the smallest star among all the Kremlin's.

After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the image of the Vodovzvodnaya Tower was placed on the inside of the cover of the passport of a citizen
