Triumfalnaya Square

The square on the Garden Ring appeared in the late 1780s - however, then it was just a wasteland that was formed after the demolition of several yards of coachmen. Until the 1930s, its appearance was constantly changing. Over the years, it housed the Omon Theater, the Nikitin Brothers Circus, the Alcazar Variety Theater and a cinema. In the 30s of the last century, the park was cut down, the square was asphalted and architectural dominants were erected: the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall and the Peking Hotel building. Later, in 1958, a monument to Vladimir Mayakovsky was erected.

In the early 2000s, the square was actually just a huge parking lot, but in 2013 a large architectural competition was announced, in which leading architectural firms participated. The renovation was completed in 2015 and completely transformed the place.

Triumfalnaya Square has become pedestrian. There are pavilions where you can have a snack and find out tourist information. Wooden benches and flower bed benches were installed. The main hit of the new space was the swing — before that, neither in Moscow nor in other cities, swings were installed on the squares.

Cultural events have become much more frequent on the renovated square. During the celebration of the City Day, New Year holidays and other major holidays, you can find performances by theater groups and beautiful thematic installations here.
