Cathedral of the Intercession of the Mother of God on the Moat

Yes, this is the same St. Basil's Cathedral, but few people know that its official name is the Cathedral of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos on the Moat.

It was built in 1552, in honor of the great event - the capture of Kazan. A few years later, the fool Vasily the Blessed, known throughout Moscow, was buried near this cathedral, then still very small. After a while, a church in his honor was added above the grave, and since then the cathedral has become associated with his name. The cathedral did not always look like it is now, its famous patterned domes were first built at the end of the 16th century and rebuilt many more times in subsequent years.

In total, the cathedral includes 9 small churches, each of which has its own separate dome. After the revolution, it was looted and abandoned, but gradually work began on the restoration of the temple. Today, like hundreds of years ago, it again pleases Muscovites and visitors with its beautiful view.
