Devichy Pole Square

Once this place was proudly called the “Samson Meadow”, and then it was renamed the Devichy Pole Square, due to its belonging to the Novodevichy Convent since 1635 (by royal decree).

But there are other versions about the renaming of Samsonov Luga. According to one of them, the field was a place where girls grazed cows and arranged festivities and games. And on the second — Tatar-Mongols captured girls from here. But these versions are not confirmed historically, so they are transmitted among citizens as legends.

Near the park is the Combined Arms Academy of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, and from the park itself you can see the Church of Michael the Archangel.

The beautiful square is planted with tulips and lilacs. It is especially pleasant to walk along it in spring and early summer, during the flowering period. Sit on cozy benches and a large fountain.
