At a time when there were many visiting Germans in the city, the first surgical school was opened here. Only Russians were taken to classes. And before that, the hospital was a common stone structure with a house church, thirty wooden lights — and all this on the banks of the Yauza River.

It was decided to set up a medicinal garden nearby, and to erect a statue of Mercy above the golden dome of the main building. In Peter the Great's time, it had its own theater — plays were staged in Russian, which was new for that time. There were also interludes. The XVIII century swept through wooden buildings with devastating fires.

At the moment, there are many new buildings here, but some of the old ones remain. Trees are more than one century old. Hydrangea, forsythia and Canadian spruce have recently appeared in the garden. This happened because the gardens were defended by caring residents of the district: the hospital began to be reconstructed.
