The favorite vacation spot for Muscovites and guests of the capital originally belonged to Mikhail Valentinovich Lentovsky, a former actor of the Maly Theater, and the Hermitage Garden was located on Bozhedomka. The unique entertainment place, where aristocrats made daily promenades, fell into disrepair by the end of the 19th century. When his trustee went bankrupt, houses were built on the site of the former garden.

The modern Hermitage Garden stands on the site of an old estate. On July 16, 1894, the site was taken over by merchant Yakov Vasilyevich Shchukin, who just a year later turned the abandoned wasteland into a paradise . Shrubs and trees were planted here, flower beds were laid out, elegant benches and winding paths leading deep into the park were improved, and the building of an abandoned theater was reconstructed, in which a few years later, one of the first film screenings in the country took place. By the way, Sarah Bernard and Maria Yermolova played on its stage, Fedor Chaliapin made his debut here and the Moscow Art Theater was opened with the premiere of Tsar Fedor Ioannovich.

Since then, the garden has been reconstructed several times: a summer concert hall was built here, a screen for a summer cinema was installed and many buildings representing historical and cultural value.

For more than 125 years, the Hermitage Garden has been a place where the entire kaleidoscope of modern cultural life in the capital is reflected.

On the territory of the garden there is a fountain, a squirrel house, a summer stage, a cinema, a dovecote, cafes and restaurants, a playground and other facilities. In winter, a romantic ice rink opens here. Skate rental is available, and individual classes with figure skating coaches are offered.
