Existing legends say that the Lobnoye Mesto was founded during the restoration of Moscow destroyed by the Tatars and was a wooden structure, covered with a tent on top. In documents, it is first mentioned when describing a speech that Ivan the Terrible proclaimed from here in 1549.

Much later, the wooden pedestal was replaced with a stone one, and the Lobnoye Mesto acquired its current appearance at the end of the XVIII century. From this place, state decrees were announced, wars or truces were declared. It was also here that the people were shown the heir to the throne, who turned 16 years old, and on Palm Sunday, it was here that the patriarch presented the Tsar with consecrated recruitment branches.

In ancient times, the Lobnoye Mesto was called “Tsarev” and considered it sacred. Today it is famous for the fact that, according to the existing belief, it is enough to hit the center of the circle with a coin, and the cherished wish will come true.
