Mass pilgrimages began here in 1998, when the relics of old Matrona were transferred to the Pokrovsky Stavropegic Convent. People come here from all over Russia, patiently waiting in line for many hours to approach the holy remains and ask for help. The abbess claims that more than 6,000 petitioners visit the monastery every day.

The fate of old Matrona is truly amazing. She was born into a large family of poor peasants in 1881. Having discovered that the newborn girl was blind, her parents decided to send her to an orphanage. Matrona escaped this fate thanks to the prophetic dream that her mother had dreamed of. By the age of eight, the girl healed the sick and accurately predicted future events. As a token of gratitude, the peasants presented various products, thanks to which Matrona fed her entire family. In 1925, she moved to Moscow, where she lived until her death.

In addition to the gift of healing, Matrona foresaw many significant events in the history of the country. Back in the late 19th century, she predicted a revolution, and World War II a couple of years before it began. There is a legend that Stalin himself visited Matrona during the war. Throughout her life, the old woman helped people, healed their ailments, and prayed for their well-being. Shortly before her death, she bequeathed all those suffering to come to her grave with their requests and do whatever she said to the soul of the beggar.

It is believed that it is best to visit the relics of Matrona on March 8, May 2 and November 22. You should always come to an old woman with an odd number of flowers, like a living person. And it is very important to stand in line for the due time without trying to approach the relics fraudulently. It is said that those who somehow skipped the queue had dreams in which the old woman reproached them for what they had done, and in the near future these people returned to the monastery and honestly defended the queue. It is also noteworthy that the beggar does not have to clearly formulate his request: Matrona herself feels everything that has accumulated in the visitor's soul and helps him.
