dungeons on Solyanka

At the beginning of the 20th century, for almost three hundred years, the Salt Yard, which had been located near [Kitay-Gorod] (http://kudago.com/msk/list/kitaj-gorod/), needed a thorough repair, for which no funds were found. As a result, the old shopping arcades were completely destroyed, and instead of them, the Merchant Society, which bought the Salt Yard, built apartment buildings, including the famous [Salt House] ( http://kudago.com/msk/place/solyanoj-dom/) to this day, and under them they arranged an extensive network of basements. These cellars were distinguished by high vaults, car entrances, and a well-thought-out ventilation system. It was assumed that this is where warehouses will be located.

In the era of the Soviet Union, underground garages of the Ministry of Internal Affairs were located in the basements on Solyanka, but after a while this was abandoned due to the high dampness of these premises. The cellars were not empty for long. In the nineties of the last century, stolen cars were sorted out here, and license plates were interrupted on stolen equipment. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the labyrinth of basements was gradually filled with garbage, which was brought here from the streets, utilities did not repair communications, water constantly flowed from the pipes. At the same time, diggers became interested in the basement system. It was found that there were two levels: on the lower floor there were garages, and the upper one was the basement of the house, where even an abandoned gym was found.

The beginning of the new century was marked by an outbreak of interest in the cellars on Solyanka. Young people began to gather here, squats were arranged. Teenagers who regularly visited this place did not clean a large amount of accumulated garbage, and in 2008 they even set fire to a smoke bomb in the basement. After that, the entrances to the basements were blocked and official permission was required to get there. Over the past five years, cellars have been cleaned of garbage, strengthened, and repaired destroyed communications. The main galleries are illuminated, and special equipment is stored in some rooms.
