In the late 1870s, merchant Timofey Morozov presented this neoclassical mansion to his wife. Morozov's son was the largest philanthropist who met many famous Russian painters. At his request, Serov painted a portrait of the Morozovs, which decorated the living room of their house. In the last years of the 19th century, the mansion was owned by Morozov's grandson, whose wife ordered the house to be rebuilt, the exterior facade design was improved, and stucco decorations were added to the interior. The fireplace installed in the dining room was decorated with a panel, which is now on display in the Tretyakov Gallery.

During the Soviet period, Timofey Morozov's mansion on Ordynka was a haven for various state organizations, and in the 90s it was privatized by entrepreneur Kantor. The businessman was allowed to privatize this house only if the premises and interior were restored. By the way, during these events, a portrait of the Morozovs by Serov was bought out and returned to its original place in the living room of the mansion.
