Moskvoretskaya Embankment

Moskvoretskaya Embankment is a refined area that is located between two bridges — Bolshoy Ustyinsky and Bolshoy Moskvoretsky. The embankment got its name due to the bridge of the same name over the Moscow River. In 1795, by decree of the mayor of the capital, this territory was strengthened and prepared for traffic. A few years later, the embankment was improved and acquired exactly the features that it is famous for to this day. At the same time, a decorative grille was installed separating the embankment from the coastline, and special openings were created, which are now used to launch divers.

Particular attention should be paid to the Bolshoy Moskvoretsky Bridge, which offers a picturesque view from Moskvoretskaya Embankment. The bridge on this site existed 500 years ago, and it was floating — its simple design simply lay on the surface of the water. Of course, it did not justify itself, often failing under the influence of river waters and atmospheric phenomena. It is for this reason that after a while, the townspeople built a full-fledged wooden bridge, which also did not last long: for several centuries it was subjected to full or partial reconstruction. But the automobile and pedestrian bridge, which in our time pleases passers-by leisurely walking along Moskvoretskaya Embankment, was built in the 40s of the XX century. By the way, it overlooks other embankments, the pearl of the capital's architecture — the Moscow Kremlin, and the masterpiece of Soviet engineering — the famous Stalinist skyscraper on Kotelnicheskaya waterfront.

Moskvoretskaya Embankment is also known for the fact that it houses a number of unique monuments of Russian architecture, the most famous of which are the Church of the Conception of the Righteous Anna and the Orphanage, which in the past lived and educated orphans and children from the poorest segments of the population. Nowadays, the building of the Orphanage houses the Military Academy and the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences.
