Bulgakov Museum (Bad Apartment)

Nowadays, the Bad Apartment works as the Bulgakov Museum. This is a former communal apartment with a long corridor and rooms on both sides, each of which is unique. “The First Moscow Study”, “Blue Study”, “Editorial Office”, “Kitchen” are all expositions that reflect Bulgakov's life during his years of residence on Bolshaya Sadovaya Street. The writer's workplace is a table with a lamp, over which hangs a bookshelf with sphinxes supporting it from below. Many books immediately catch the eye, Mikhail Afanasyevich had an extraordinary passion for them.

The Blue Study became the embodiment of Bulgakov's long-standing dream — he always dreamed of having a room with blue walls. For him, it was an ideal place to work, and therefore this is where the writer's most famous works appeared. Particularly noteworthy is the large mahogany secretaire located in the corner of the room, behind which the manuscript “The Master and Margarita” was born.

The kitchen fully reflects the everyday life of that era: containers with kerosene, primus pots, pots and other household items. And if we consider that this square was common, everything falls into place — you can find anything you want here.

At the entrance of the Bulgakov apartment, visitors leave drawings, inscriptions and wishes: the walls are full of them on all floors. It is believed that every wish written here will be fulfilled. Newlyweds and everyone who dreams of finding their second half often come here.
