Krasnopresnenskaya embankment

The embankment was built in the 70s of the XVIII century, it was immediately built for centuries — it was made of concrete and faced with granite. Soon, the Trekhgornaya Manufactory was built next to it, named after the nearby area.

The owners of the manufactory, merchants Prokhorovs, not only established textile production well, but also introduced many innovative ideas for their time at the manufactory. For example, the first craft school in Russia was organized there, where both adults and children could study. A theater for workers, a library and a medical office were also opened. One of the important stages in the development of the factory was the organization of the Partnership on shares.

The factory's products were in great demand and were presented at many international exhibitions, in particular in Paris, Antwerp and Chicago, they won gold medals.

The embankment was first called Presnenskaya, as it was located near the Presnya area, but later fateful events for the Russian Empire influenced its renaming.

During the armed uprising of 1905, workers' squads occupied the manufactory and concentrated their forces there. Fierce battles were fought, workers demanded economic concessions and political freedoms. The uprising was suppressed by government troops, but in memory of these bloody days, the embankment was renamed Krasnopresnenskaya.

Since then, the embankment area has been built up with remarkable structures. In 1979, the House of Soviets of the RSFSR was built here, and now the Government House of the Russian Federation. The building received the name “White House” in the press after tanks fired at it in August 1991. There are two bridges above the embankment — the trade and pedestrian [Bagration Bridge] (https://kudago.com/msk/place/most-bagration/) and [Novoarbatsky] (https://kudago.com/msk/place/novoarbatskij-most/).

Modern buildings are also located in the embankment area — the Expocentre exhibition complex and the Moscow City business quarter, the design and architecture of which open a new era of urban development and decorate capital.

Today, the embankment is about three kilometers long and is a great place for walking, cycling, rollerblading and skateboarding. It is never crowded or noisy here. On summer evenings, you can go down the steps of the promenade, sit by the water and enjoy the views of the city in the light of the lights.
