Church on Poklonnaya Hill
The Church of St. George the Victorious is located near the memorial on Poklonnaya Hill. The laying of the stone began on May 9, 1994. It was built during the year for the fiftieth anniversary of the Great Patriotic War.
The temple was built according to the project of architect A. Polyansky, bas-reliefs on the walls were created by sculptors Z. Anjaparidze and I.Tsereteli, the iconostasis painted by A. Chashkin, the mosaic was laid out by E. Klyuchareva. The church was created in accordance with the canons of Orthodox architecture, but grandiose bronze bas-reliefs became a new element for Russian temple architecture.
On May 6, 1995, the church was consecrated by Patriarch Alexy II.
The main relic is a particle of the relics of George the Victorious, donated to the city of Moscow by Patriarch Diodorus of Jerusalem and transferred to the church on September 4, 1998.
