Nikitsky Boulevard courtyards

Contrary to popular belief that mysterious and romantic courtyards-wells exist only in St. Petersburg, in Moscow you can also find such places with gloomy aesthetics. There are much fewer of them here, but the more valuable these findings are.

All five yards of Nikitsky Boulevard belong to the same complex — residential buildings for employees of the Moscow office of the State Bank. These buildings began to be built in 1913 by architect Bogdan Nilus, who undertook the construction of only large public and private houses, so he left a small but large-scale legacy.

In addition to residential buildings, it was planned to build a laundry, a bread shop and even a house church here. However, these plans did not come true due to the revolution, the houses were completed in 1925 by another architect, and not employees of the State Bank, but workers and families settled here.

By the way, these yards were included in the footage of the movie “The Meeting Place Cannot Be Changed” - it was in house No. 12 that Volodya Sharapova's lover, policeman Varya Sinichkina, lived!

This place will be interesting for tourists who want to see the real life of the capital and are looking for non-standard sights, people who love houses with history, shrouded in legends, and just photographers with wide-angle lens.

You can enter the courtyards only in one place — from Nikitsky Boulevard between houses No. 12 and 12A. However, it is not easy to get into them, to put it mildly.
