home of Rossiya Insurance Company
Initially, the company was located in St. Petersburg. It lasted until 1919, when it was abolished by order of the Soviet government. However, the founders of the society managed to immortalize it in the architectural appearance of Moscow.
The fortress house is an impressive building that occupies an entire block and is located at four addresses at once: Sretensky Boulevard, 6/1, Milyutinsky Pereulok, 22, Bobrov Pereulok, Building 1 and Frolov pereulok, house 6/1С2. The design of the building was invented and implemented by architects N.M. Proskurin and A.I. Von Gauguin in 1899-1902. The building consists of two separate buildings, which are connected by a wrought-iron fence.
The walls of each of the buildings are an intricate picture: on some you can see a salamander and a flock of bats, on others - the game of playful cupids around a tired Greek goddess, and nearby is a teacher resembling Socrates, who is talking to a student...
The house of the insurance company “Russia” has been attracting the eyes of passers-by for more than a hundred years. It is not for nothing that the famous French architect Le Corbusier considered this building to be the most beautiful building in Moscow at the beginning of the 20th century.
