Initially, the house was conceived as an impressive residential complex, and even two separate courtyards with personal gates were made here. The architecture uses both techniques characteristic of classicism and details of the Empire style that was fashionable at that time. As a result, the estate was decorated with a portico with columns, and a patriotic bas-relief on the theme of victory in the war with the French was placed on the pediment of the wing.

Pyotr Mikhailovich's daughter, Ekaterina, married an Italian singer, and the young couple settled in her father's mansion. During their family life, and before the divorce they lived for 8 years, the socialite couple organized concerts and musical evenings in the estate, where not only cheerful tunes, but also opera works were performed. In 1821, Lunin sold the house to merchants, and until 1917 it housed first a commercial bank, and then the State Bank. Nowadays, the house houses the Museum of Oriental Art.
