Bolshoy Moskvoretsky Bridge

We know many bridges across the Moscow River, but this is the largest one and it is located in the center, next to the Spassky Gate. The bridge is a link between Vasilyevsky Descent and Varvarka Street.

A few centuries ago, there was a floating bridge on this site. It was later replaced by a wooden one, but it burned down in 1870. It was only in 1938 that a reinforced concrete bridge appeared, which was designed by a group of architects and engineers led by Alexey Shchusev.

The length of the bridge is 554 meters in length, the space is divided into pedestrian and automobile zones.

The Bolshoy Moskvoretsky Bridge is especially famous for the fact that German athlete Matthias Rust landed on it in 1987 on a small single-engine plane.
