Bolotnaya embankment

Once the embankment united two historical areas — Bersenevka and Boloto. It was built back in the 18th century, during the construction of the Vodootvodny Canal. The embankment got its name due to the fact that during the spring flood this area was regularly flooded and it turned into a swamp.

Bolotnaya Embankment was the place where the shops of the capital's merchants were located, and later a large power plant was built (it provided electricity to the Cathedral of Christ the Savior) and the Einem plant (now” Krasny Oktyabr”). Thus, this place acquired its economic and industrial significance.

The new history of Bolotnaya Embankment began in the late 20th century. In 1999, it was decided to reconstruct the district, many buildings that had become unusable were demolished and the territory was landscaped. Now this place is a very picturesque corner in the center of Moscow, quite suitable for romantic walks.
