Today, there are two current versions of the origin of the name Based on the less popular first version, the name is due to the fact that in the old days there were gardens in which a huge number of gooseberry bushes grew. Bersen is the ancient name for this berry. The second, more common version is related to a person named Bersen-Beklemishev. This is the honorable nobleman who owned this territory 600 years ago. He is known for ordering his subjects to install bars that protected his possessions from uninvited guests in the dark.

Bersenevskaya Embankment is located in the Yakimanka area, its length is about 800 meters. There are many historical and architectural monuments here, but two of them require special attention.

One of the buildings located on Bersenevskaya Embankment now houses the Institute of Cultural Studies. According to historians, once this building could well belong to the famous oprichnik, the “right hand” of Ivan the Terrible — Malyuta Skuratov. There is also an opinion that its owner was the same person after whom the embankment is named — Ivan Bersen-Beklemishev.

Another building that is of great interest to lovers of antiquity and collectors of urban legends is the so-called House. At one time, prominent politicians of the former USSR lived in the 505-apartment Building, people in whose hands the fate of all peoples inhabiting a vast territory from the Baltic States to the Far East was in their hands. Here you could meet Nikita Khrushchev, Chairman of the Council of Ministers, Nikolai Yezhov, a well-known short executioner of the Stalinist regime, and many other politicians and prominent scientists. There is a legend that an amazing and mysterious boy Lyova Fedotov lived in the House, who predicted the beginning of the Great Patriotic War and the first manned flight into space.

Walking along Bersenevskaya Embankment, you can't help but notice the emblem of the famous Krasny Oktyabr chocolate factory on one of the buildings. Currently, an art cluster is located on the territory of the factory.
