There were simply not enough places in cemeteries. The government of the country was very concerned about the internal situation, which was complicated by the fact that the people openly expressed their discontent. A wave of protests swept through the territory of the state, one of the largest was the Plague Riot. The authorities issued a decree “On measures to stop epidemics and arrange cemeteries”.

It was at this time that the Basurman Crypts appeared. This burial site was intended for the burial of foreign gentiles. This is the reason for such a strong difference between this cemetery and all other cemeteries in Moscow.

The Gothic sculptures of this cemetery are reminiscent of the world-famous Pere Lachaise cemetery in Paris. And the silence that stands here makes this ancient place awe.
