In 1862, Ferrain bought a luxurious building owned by merchant Schilbach and moved his pharmacy here, which, by the way, he inherited from Daniil Gurchin, the creator of the first private pharmacy in Moscow at Petre I.

It is worth paying attention to the architecture of this house — it has one very interesting feature. If you look at the pharmacy from Nikolskaya Street, you see pure neo-Renaissance — large windows on the first floors, small ones on the upper floors, elegant bars, columns depicting the goddess of medicine Hygiene. But on the other hand, a completely different building with Gothic turrets, pointed windows, red-brick looks at the city. On the tallest tower, you can see a round gaping opening — once there was a clock in its place, but over time it was removed and was not replaced by anything.

By the outbreak of World War I, Ferrain's enterprise had become the largest corporation with an income of 7,000,000 rubles, and employed 600 pharmacists producing three hundred medicines. In wartime, the pharmacy became an irreplaceable literally manufacturer of medicines — the main supplier of medical supplies at that time was Germany, with which Russia entered the war.

In 1917, the Ferrain family was forced to leave Russia, and the building housed pharmacy No. 1, which in the 21st century was replaced by the Baccarat restaurant and boutique.
