Humboldt Forum
The Humboldt Forum is a major cultural venue located in the heart of Berlin, on the site of the former Berlin City Palace. The complex combines both reconstructed Baroque façades and modern architectural elements, designed by Italian architect Franco Stella, to create an impressive space for art, culture, and science. Covering approximately 30,000 square meters, the Humboldt Forum is one of Berlin's most ambitious cultural projects, serving as a platform for exhibitions, cultural events, and dialogue.
Visitors to the Humboldt Forum can explore a variety of museums and exhibition spaces, including the Ethnological Museum and the Museum of Asian Art. These institutions display around 20,000 exhibits, ranging from Chinese court art and richly decorated houses from Oceania to thrones and other culturally significant items. The exhibitions also reflect on the impact of colonialism, providing a critical view of the circumstances under which these artifacts were acquired and addressing their historical context.
In addition to the permanent exhibits, the Humboldt Forum offers temporary exhibitions, cultural performances, and workshops. The building also includes spaces like the Humboldt Laboratory, a hands-on science workshop that invites the public to engage with topics like climate change and biodiversity. Visitors can enjoy stunning views of Berlin from the rooftop terrace, which overlooks Museum Island, Alexanderplatz, and the Spree River. With its combination of history, culture, and interactive experiences, the Humboldt Forum is a significant cultural hub in Berlin.
